The Easter markets have opened in Vienna. It’s a lovely past time to wander around and see all the beautiful, hand-painted, real eggs.Be careful though, some of them are plastic. Before buying an egg, ask if it is real. Plastic eggs are tacky. =(
I think the best market is at The Freyung in the Inner City. The mountain of eggs! You’ve never seen anything like it. Check it out here Ostermarkt Freyung
To celebrate, I’ve set up my Easter tree already. As you can see, I am quite the fan of these little eggs.

Easter Tree in Vienna

Beautiful tree! I’m American and grew up in the states, although my mother and father lived in Germany for a time early in their marriage. My mother puts up an Easter Tree every year with gorgeous eggs she’s blown and painted herself. I never thought about the why and where it came from, but I’m wondering now if it’s something she picked up from her stay in Germany. I’m hoping to live in Vienna myself this time next year, perhaps I’ll have my own Easter Tree.
just FYI:
the original vianna easter maket was and is on the kalvarienberg where a church with a beatufull in-door “Via Dolorosa” (=kalvarienberg) is situated – i have to admit that today it’s a bit more like a fun fair, but one can still buy the famous “Bamkraxler” – a highlight of my childhood
